Aim: To record for perpetuity the memory of those from the greater Midleton Area who gave their lives for us all in WW1.
Project History:
This project was instigated in September 2015 by a mass offered for all the men from the parish of Midleton who were killed in WW1 which was accompanied by a booklet giving details of those who were killed. This booklet included name, age, parents( where available), regiment and when killed. A lot of people showed interest in the details of the booklet and as a result a group was formed to look into the feasibility of erecting a War Memorial [of remembrance] in Midleton.
This is now coming to fruition and the remembrance wall will be situated on the western end of the Baby's Walk , at the southern end of the Main St.
There have been some changes in the original concept and the Remembrance List will incorporate the greater Midleton area including Carrigtwohill, Lisgoold, Leamlara, Mogeely, Dungourney, Castlemartyr, Cloyne,Ballycotton and Midleton. The parish of Aghada is not included into this project as there is a War Memorial in Whitegate and would only lead to duplication.
